| What is Cthulhu Mythos? |
Cthulhu Mythos is a series of horror novels based upon the works of H.P.Lovecraft(abv.HPL), who is known to be one of the best horror writers of this century.Lovecraft was born in Providence Rhode Island, and had spent most his short 46 year life there.
Lovecraft made his deciples use his fictionary proper nouns such as Arkham or Necronomicon in their works, Also when he was making comments of new authors, which was his side-business, he used to slip in here and there his little items of his writings.
Thus,Lovecraft's world did not remain only as his own, but was also shared by other authors. This was how the Cthulhu Mythos began,and among those authors who shares his ideas, there were Horror Stephen King, Robert Bloch famous for “Psycho” and Robert E. Howard who wrote the Conan Series.
Unfortunately, the Cthulhu Mythos was never widely accepted during HPL's life time. But one deciple August Darleth, fearing that his death meaning the death of his works, established the Printing Comapany Arlham House and continued to publish HPL's works, At the same time, he himself continued to write stories concerning the Cthulhu Mythos.
There are many more, In Japan many authors are writing in the same tradition, one example may be "Makai-Suikoden" by KURIMOTO Kaoru and another maybe the "Cthulu Opera Series" by KAZAMI Jun. Other writers such as ASAMATSU Ken, TOMONARI Jun-ichi, and KIKUCHI Hideyuki and others are also famous.
As for the movies "Necronomicon" and "Re-Animater" are known.
There are many musical works effected by the Mythos, as many of you already know, all of the members of the American Heavy-Metal Group "Metallica" are HPL fans and they even a made a song "The Call of Ktulu".
There are many games based on the Mythos too, and are also attracting many fans as well.
